Seven Habits of Highly Unhappy People

By Imam Afroz Ali

Insha'Allah he'll be writing some important advice on solutions of how to reverse such behaviour, attitudes and mindset, into being effective beings, living an aspiring life.

1. You believe life is difficult, for you.

-This attitude contradicts Allah's promise that He wishes good and ease for you, and that you are not burdened any more than you can bear.

2. You find it difficult to trust people.

- Healthy discernment over gullibility is important but default suspicion contradicts Prophetic exhortation to have good opinion of people. When there is no evidence, projecting upon a person separate negative experiences with others, is unjust, unproductive and untrue.

3. You see only what's wrong with others, and the world, rather than what such imperfection means and what does exist all around.

- This attitude actually arises from the heedlessness that only Allah is perfect, and that He has created everything through His Perfection to convey meaning. Seeking perfection in creation is seeking the wrong thing.

4. You compare yourself with others, and consider yourself less and unworthy.

- This mindset disregards the fact that Allah has created everything with its purpose and has fully endowed the blessings of each creation within them, and if one assesses Favours upon them rather than comparing oneself with another, one will find one's own amazing gifts.

5. You micromanage yourself, often against the flow of reality.

- This behaviour claims to have control over all things, forgetting that every moment is decreed by the Divine and instead if control, we are supposed to focus on the response to the realities manifesting in front of us.

6. You deal with the future ahead of you with fear and sense of loss.

- This assumption contradicts that reality is between fear and hope and an opportunity to realise our higher potential.

7. You gossip about your past through complaint and justification.

- This mindset ignores living and being content with the present and aspiring to be better in the coming future. It is living in ingratitude and defining oneself through creation.
